The Case of the Scottsboro Boys
Moments In Civil Rights History
On March 26th, 1931, nine black youths were falsely accused of raping two white women. Despite evidence that exonerated them, they were brought to trial in Scottsboro, Alabama. All-white juries delivered guilty verdicts. A series of appeals and new trials followed. No crime in American history, produced as many trials, convictions, reversals and retrials as the case of the Scottsboro boys.
