On March 26th, 1931, nine black youths were falsely accused of raping two white women. Despite evidence that exonerated them, they were brought to trial in Scottsboro, Alabama. All-white juries delivered guilty verdicts. A series of appeals and new trials followed. No crime in American history, produced as many trials, convictions, reversals and retrials as the case of the Scottsboro boys.
