Equity in Health Care for All

Dr. Edith P. Mitchell

Dr. Edith P. Mitchell is Director of the Center to Eliminate Cancer Disparities at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, and served as the 116th president of the National Medical Association. Mitchell recalls a family decision against taking her great-grandfather to the hospital, fearing he would not get the care he needed. Though a young child at the time, the event would shape her life and her goal to eliminate disparities in health care. In addition to her medical achievements, Dr. Mitchell is a retired brigadier general, the first female physician to attain this rank in the history of the U.S. Air Force.
