Sybil Jordan Hampton was one of three additional black students who attended Central High School after the Little Rock 9, and was the only African-American in her class. Of how other students treated her, she said, "What we learned the first day was that we were not going to be assaulted in the hallways, that we were going to be shunned. And that was the beginning and it remained that way for three years."
