A Pioneering Denver Educator

Marie Greenwood

Marie Greenwood was one of Denver's first African American public school teachers in the 1930s. She shares what happened when she told a counselor in high school about her goal to attend college: "She looked at me, and she said, 'Why ' [...] And she had the nerve to tell me that I would be wasting my father's money because all I could do would be to work in somebody's kitchen or clean somebody's house."
