Alfonso Bell

Alphonso Bell was born in Birmingham and moved to Detroit with his family at about age 13. To his surprise, racial discrimination was not much different in the northern city. He became involved in the 1963 Detroit Walk to Freedom. He said, "I met white people who had never seen some black people. But they'd heard about them. And the opinions were formed. And that march changed a whole lot of that."
