A Trip to Support James Meredith

Joel Anderson, Chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, grew up in the South and recalls a trip to Mississippi to support James Meredith. "Being crazy college boys, we got the idea, 'Well, why don't we just drive down there ' It was an all-night drive ... and we got there before dawn. There were troops everywhere ... the four of us are gathered up and made to march two by two with our hands clasped over our heads.
