Not a child nor an adult, watching the armed guards marching north on South Parkway (now MLK Drive) taught me a lesson I could not have learned in a classroom. Everyone in the nation felt the impact of that assassination and sadly saw the flip side of nonviolence. It looked like the dream had become a nightmare; and hope was hanging on by a mere thread. I will never forget those "soldiers" and how they made me feel...unsafe...though they were there to serve and protect.
