Mamie Chalmers, civil rights activist, shares her experience of protesting in Birmingham, Ala., as a young woman and being sprayed by police with a fire hose: "He called out the Birmingham Fire Department and told them, 'Turn the water hose on them [...] and they won't have to take a bath' [...] and that's what they did. And today I'm deaf in one ear because of that."
