Riding the Bus in Memphis After Desegregation

Tennessee State Rep. Johnnie Turner was a student at LeMoyne College in Memphis when the buses were integrated, and would sit right behind the bus driver. "I would sit behind the driver....I sat behind it because I knew it was the most humiliating experience I had every time I had to move to the back of that bus," she recalled.
