From Sharecropper to the White House
Janis F. Kearney
Janis Kearney, personal diarist to President Bill Clinton, grew up in Arkansas, the daughter of sharecroppers. She recalls her childhood education, and how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired black communities in the rural south. "What I think Martin Luther King and the Dream Team ... did, was to make blacks in the rural south understand that they didn't have to accept things as they were."
