Denver's Sit-In Movement
Purnell Steen
Purnell Steen speaks about the sit-in movement in Denver, Colorado during the 1960s and the successes of that movement in desegregating local businesses. He recalled, "There was a department store ... they had maids and janitors ... but they did not have any people of color. We met with the manager of the store who assured us...as long as he was the manager ... there would never be a person of color."
