Bloody Sunday

On March 7th, 1965, hundreds of civil rights protesters began a march from Selma, Alabama, to the state capitol in Montgomery. But they never made it that day. On the outskirts of Selma, after crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the marchers were brutally assaulted by heavily armed state troopers and deputies. That day of violence became known as Bloody Sunday.
