Marching From Selma to Montgomery

Rudy Simons

Rudy Simons grew up in Detroit and recalls "bad racist attitudes" and "rampant anti-Semitism." He worked for SNCC and attended both the 1963 Detroit Walk to Freedom and the 1965 Selma to Montgomery March. He notes a key difference from the 1965 march, "A lineup of the people who lived in the area ...were not at all happy with us and let us know about it in ways which I could not repeat here."
