Integrating St. Augustine Beach

Civil Rights Activist Purcell Conway shares his account of the demonstrations to integrate a Florida beach, and the violence that ensued. In recalling the incident, he said:"I participated with a demonstration on St. Augustine Beach with I think about four other kids my age...we were in the water maybe five minutes before this huge crowd starting approaching us from the north and south."
